EJAE, the singer and songwriter behind the hit “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters, said Leonardo DiCaprio’s expression during her BAFTA Film Awards performance made her nervous and affected her singing. She said locking eyes with the actor shortly before a difficult high note unsettled her during an already intimidating appearance before a celebrity audience.

In a Times interview, EJAE also described meeting Beyoncé and Jay-Z at an afterparty, where Beyoncé praised her voice and said her children sing “Golden”. EJAE co-wrote the Oscar-winning song with Mark Sonnenblick and provided the singing voice for Rumi in the fictional group HUNTR/X; its success has taken her to major awards ceremonies including the BAFTAs, Grammys and Golden Globes.
