Fatboy Slim debut album reissued for 30th anniversary

Fatboy Slim’s debut album, Better Living Through Chemistry, will be reissued to mark its 30th anniversary. Released digitally by BMG on 25 September, with special LP and CD editions following on 2 October, the reissue revisits the record that established Norman Cook’s Fatboy Slim project and helped shape a prominent period for British electronic music.
Originally released in 1996, the album included “Everybody Needs a 303”, “Punk to Funk” and “Going Out of My Head”, and reached No. 69 on the UK Albums Chart. Cook said it reflected his early experimentation, inspired by his Big Beat Boutique nights in Brighton; its 1998 follow-up, You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby, spent four weeks at No. 1 in the UK.

Norman Cook is a British DJ, producer and musician who records as Fatboy Slim. Before adopting that name, he had worked in several bands and made dance music under other aliases, building a reputation in the UK club scene.
Better Living Through Chemistry was his first album as Fatboy Slim. It combined sampled sounds, breakbeats and dance rhythms, reflecting the rise of electronic music in Britain during the 1990s.
The record came before Fatboy Slim became internationally known through later hits and albums. It is therefore seen as an early part of the project’s development and of Cook’s move towards a larger mainstream audience.
