Marvel’s Wolverine “fully playable” on disc when it releases, Insomniac clarifies, perhaps making it one of the last few PlayStation games that will be

Eurogamer · 3 hours ago

Insomniac has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will be fully playable directly from its physical PlayStation 5 disc when it launches on 15 September, rather than requiring a full download. The clarification matters because Sony has said it will stop producing game discs from January 2028, making Wolverine potentially one of the final major PlayStation releases to preserve this form of physical ownership.

The studio still recommends downloading a day-one patch, which will contain final polish and bug fixes completed before launch. Sony’s planned move away from discs has prompted criticism over its effects on second-hand sales, disc drives and digital-store pricing. Wolverine is a more linear and violent game than Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles, with Wolverine and Jean Grey appearing but the X-Men not existing in this version of the universe.

  • Wolverine will be playable from its PS5 disc at launch.
  • A day-one patch will add final fixes and polish.
  • Sony plans to end game-disc production in 2028.
