A Shropshire vicar and environmental campaigner, the Rev Paul Cawthorne, helped Michael Sheen investigate former toxic waste sites for a new BBC documentary. He is calling for a fresh statutory investigation into Stoney Hill landfill near Coalbrookdale after historical records indicated that Monsanto legally disposed of waste there during the 1980s.

Cawthorne says testing linked to the investigation found dangerously high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls at nine of 10 sites examined, although the findings concern several locations rather than Stoney Hill alone. Telford and Wrekin Council says its records show no evidence of toxic waste at Stoney Hill and that regular monitoring has found no cause for concern; an Environment Agency review in 2008 also concluded the site was not harming the local environment. The two-part series, *Buried with Michael Sheen*, begins on BBC Two, BBC One Wales and iPlayer on 17 August.
