Kaiju No. 8 will return on 5 September with Narumi’s Week at Work, a four-episode original short anime released after roughly a year without the main series. The catch is that it is not the long-awaited next instalment of Kafka Hibino’s central story, but a lighter spin-off focusing on Gen Narumi, the First Division’s powerful yet easily distracted captain.

The series explores Narumi’s chaotic day-to-day work rather than large-scale kaiju battles, drawing on the franchise’s workplace-comedy side. It is directed by Shigeyuki Miya and produced by Production I.G., with character designs by Tetsuya Nishio; story drafting came from Kizuku Watanabe. Episodes will arrive weekly on 5, 12, 19 and 26 September, streaming internationally on Crunchyroll on the same day as their Japanese YouTube premieres.
