Tongue & Robinson cut Headingley ball in half

BBC Sport ·

England seamers Josh Tongue and Ollie Robinson each took five wickets in the same innings on the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley, the first time an England pair has achieved this feat in 20 years. To mark the shared milestone, the pair arranged for the match ball to be cut in half so they could each keep a memento, a solution devised as they walked off the field together.

Tongue finished with figures of 5-46 and Robinson 5-51 as Pakistan were bowled out for 171 after England won the toss, with the hosts closing on 112-2. It is the first time two England bowlers have taken five-wicket hauls in the same Test innings since Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar did so against Pakistan in 2006. The performance also gave new captain Joe Root a strong start to his second stint in charge, while Robinson's haul came days after the birth of his daughter Eva and continued his successful return to the side following a lengthy fitness-related absence.
