Briton Hennessy in talks for undisputed world title fight

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

British boxer Francesca Hennessy is in talks to fight Danish fighter Dina Thorslund for the undisputed bantamweight world title in the UK later this year, BBC Sport understands. Promoter Boxxer has offered Thorslund close to £183,000 to face Hennessy in November or December, with the fight representing a significant career opportunity for the 21-year-old, who is the WBC's number one ranked challenger and could become the youngest undisputed champion in four-belt boxing history.

Hennessy, who turns 22 in October, most recently stopped Aurora de Persio in May and has nine professional wins since her 2023 debut. A victory over Thorslund would see her surpass Gabriela Fundora's record of becoming undisputed champion aged 22 years and 218 days. Thorslund, 32, holds the WBC, WBO, WBA and IBF titles after beating Cherneka Johnson in August, having previously relinquished two belts during pregnancy. Promoters on both sides have confirmed talks are under way, though a deal is not yet finalised.
