A married couple were killed in New Jersey after a Mercedes G-Wagon, allegedly stolen and driven by four teenagers fleeing police, crossed the centre line and smashed head-on into their car. Alice Stilwell, 67, and Robert Barr Jr, 54, died in the crash near Mays Landing, roughly 18 miles from Atlantic City, in a case that has drawn scrutiny over whether officers were actively pursuing the vehicle when the collision occurred. Stilwell worked as a hairdresser and Barr as a school bus driver, and their deaths have left family, friends and colleagues devastated.

Police first tried to stop the roughly 6,000lb SUV in Longport at about 3.45am after it was confirmed stolen, but the driver fled; officers spotted it again around four hours later before it crashed. Nayshaun Brown, 18, and three juveniles have been charged with aggravated assault along with conspiracy counts of joyriding, eluding police and receiving stolen property, with Brown also facing a first-degree charge of employing a minor in a crime. New Jersey's Attorney General's office is now investigating whether police pursuit contributed to the crash, while a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the victims' family.
