Ian Anderson recalled a recurring Jethro Tull tour prank involving a sex toy labelled “anal intruder”, bought by bassist Dave Pegg in Frankfurt during the band’s 1980s electronic-era touring. The story matters chiefly as an anecdote revealing the band’s irreverent backstage and onstage humour behind its more cerebral, pastoral public image.

According to Anderson, Pegg bought the item from Dr Müller’s sex shop, probably around Jethro Tull’s 29 September 1984 concert at Frankfurt’s Festhalle. Drummer Doane Perry was repeatedly targeted during drum solos, with the object lowered on a fishing line; the prank reportedly continued across the two-month Under Wraps world tour. Anderson said the object was later found in an old drum case by the band’s current drummer, Scott Hammond.
