How Each Music Listening Platform Is Treating AI Music (Updating)
Music platforms are adopting different approaches to the rapid growth of AI-generated music, ranging from Bandcamp’s ban to Spotify and Apple Music’s labelling systems. The issue matters because AI uploads are becoming a large share of new music, while platforms must balance transparency, fraud prevention and artistic experimentation against the risk of wrongly identifying human-made work.
Deezer said AI tracks exceeded 50% of daily uploads at peak levels in June 2026, while Apple Music and Qobuz reported that roughly a third of uploads were fully AI-generated. Spotify is targeting spam, impersonation and streaming fraud, offering AI-use disclosures, creator verification and an “AI Persona” label whose artists will be excluded from personalised recommendations. Apple Music plans “Made With AI” labels by the end of 2026, relying on record labels and distributors to disclose material AI use across music, artwork and videos.
- AI music now makes up a substantial share of uploads.
- Spotify will limit recommendations for labelled AI artists.
- Apple Music plans disclosure-based AI labels.
