Fenerbahçe midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been banned for four European matches, two of them suspended, and fined €50,000 (£43,000) by UEFA following a brawl after his side's Champions League play-off win at Lyon. Team-mate Mason Greenwood received a one-match suspended ban and a €30,000 (£26,000) fine, while Lyon goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira was hit with a five-match ban, two suspended, for what UEFA described as "serious assault". The punishments follow ugly scenes after Fenerbahçe's 3-2 aggregate victory sent them through to the Champions League league stage.

Guendouzi, who was repeatedly booed by Lyon fans and previously played for their rivals Marseille, was sanctioned for insulting people at the match, provoking spectators and breaching conduct rules, after he taunted the home support and shouted "Allez l'OM" towards a camera. Video footage showed him confronted by a person in Lyon kit near the tunnel, sparking a wider melee involving both teams and security staff; both clubs were also fined €50,000 for their teams' conduct. Guendouzi said afterwards he felt "disrespected" after fans allegedly insulted his family throughout the game.
