The crash occurred on 28 August in a kosher grocery store car park, when Maria Cobon-Guzman, a 20-year-old Guatemalan national without a driving licence, allegedly struck a mother and her two children in a pushchair, killing the nine-month-old boy and critically injuring the mother and five-year-old girl. Cobon-Guzman has been charged with manslaughter, while Ariadna Lazaro-Flores, who allegedly lent her the car, faces a charge of endangering the welfare of an incompetent person. Both women reportedly entered the US illegally in 2023 under the Biden administration. Kuhn is pushing for a local council resolution against New Jersey's Immigrant Trust Directive, which limits police cooperation with ICE, though state officials defend the policy as building trust with immigrant communities to encourage crime reporting.
