Wigan Warriors captain Liam Farrell has announced he will retire from rugby league at the end of the current season, bringing to a close a decorated career spent entirely at the club. The 36-year-old second-row forward made his debut in 2010 and went on to become one of the most successful players in the modern Super League era, culminating in him leading Wigan to an unprecedented quadruple in 2024.

Farrell has made 428 appearances for Wigan, winning six Super League titles, five League Leaders' Shields, five Challenge Cups and two World Club Challenges, and earning 12 caps for England. He was appointed captain ahead of the 2023 season but has been sidelined since the end of June with a shoulder injury, and was contracted at the club until the end of next season before deciding to step away early. He is the cousin of British & Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell.
