Where to Play Every Grand Theft Auto Game in 2026

Polygon · 57 minutes ago

With Grand Theft Auto 6 due on 19 November and expected to be the biggest entertainment launch ever, Polygon has compiled a guide to where every game in the long-running GTA series can currently be played. Despite the franchise's huge popularity, publisher Rockstar Games has been inconsistent about preserving its back catalogue, particularly the early 2D titles and various spin-offs, meaning several games are difficult or impossible to access through official channels today.

The series is generally split into three eras: the 2D universe, the 3D universe and the HD universe. Games from the 3D and HD eras are mostly accessible via modern re-releases, remasters or the GTA Plus subscription service ($7.99 a month, which includes a rotating selection of classic titles), though the 2021 "Definitive Edition" remaster of GTA 3 and Vice City was criticised for technical issues and unfaithful visuals. By contrast, original 2D-era games such as the first GTA, its London and 2 expansions, and GTA 2, are officially unavailable, having been pulled from sale or never digitally re-released, leaving fans reliant on old console hardware, retro ports or unofficial modified PC versions.

  • 3D/HD-era games are mostly available via remasters or GTA Plus subscription.
  • Early 2D-era GTA titles are officially unavailable, requiring retro hardware or workarounds.
