A survey commissioned by Netflix has found that a quarter of men in relationships secretly enjoy watching romantic films, despite many being reluctant to admit it to their friends. The streaming service polled 2,000 men to mark the arrival of the complete Twilight Saga on Netflix UK, revealing that so-called "chick flicks" are a more popular guilty pleasure among men than commonly assumed, with such films often forming part of regular date nights.

Pretty Woman emerged as men's favourite romance film, with 10 per cent of respondents admitting to crying while watching, and the Twilight Saga also ranking highly. Other titles featuring in the top 30 include Mamma Mia, Mean Girls, Miss Congeniality, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, The Devil Wears Prada, Moulin Rouge and Legally Blonde. The poll further found that British couples watch an average of four films together each week, with 90 per cent saying this strengthens their relationship through bonding activities such as foot rubs, snack sharing and holding hands.
