Danielle Deadwyler, Ella Beatty, Ike Barinholtz, Connor Storrie & More Confirmed For Focus Features’ ‘The Bell Jar’ As Production Wraps
Focus Features has completed filming on its adaptation of Sylvia Plath's novel The Bell Jar, confirming a supporting cast that includes Danielle Deadwyler, Ella Beatty, Ike Barinholtz and Connor Storrie alongside leads Billie Eilish and Carey Mulligan. The film marks the feature acting debut of ten-time Grammy winner Eilish, who plays protagonist Esther Greenwood, and reunites audiences with director Sarah Polley in her first feature since winning the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Women Talking in 2023.
The Bell Jar, Plath's only novel, is a semi-autobiographical account of a young woman's descent into mental illness, first published in 1963 shortly before the writer's death by suicide; it has since sold millions of copies and been translated into more than 40 languages. Eilish stars alongside Mulligan as Mrs Greenwood, with Deadwyler as Dr Nolan, Dylan Hawco as Buddy Willard, Lili Taylor as Jay Cee, Beatty as Joan, Maggie Kuntz as Doreen, Barinholtz as Lenny and Storrie as Marco. Polley also wrote the screenplay, and the film is produced by Plan B, Studiocanal and Joy Coalition.
