The BBC has cancelled RuPaul's Drag Race UK after eight series, citing the broadcaster's need to make £500 million in savings amid ongoing financial pressures. Producer World of Wonder confirmed the show, along with its spin-offs, will move to the company's own streaming service, Wow Presents Plus, which it is billing as a "new era" for the franchise. The decision marks the end of an 11-series run on the BBC for a show credited with bringing drag culture into the mainstream in the UK.

The BBC said it had "not taken lightly" the difficult choices required to hit its savings target, while thanking RuPaul, World of Wonder and the wider cast and crew. The series, judged by RuPaul alongside Michelle Visage, Graham Norton and Alan Carr, averaged around 1.5 million viewers according to BBC News. It joins a growing list of BBC casualties from the cuts, following the cancellations of Blankety Blank, Celebrity Mastermind and Live At The Apollo in July.
