GTA 6’s first confirmed actor is King of the Hill’s Stephen Root: “It’s an amazing thing to look at”
Rockstar Games has yet to formally reveal its GTA 6 voice cast, but veteran actor Stephen Root has confirmed he features in the game, ending months of fan speculation sparked by online sleuths comparing leaked footage to his distinctive voice. The confirmation, given to AP News, is significant as it marks the first named actor officially attached to one of the most anticipated releases in gaming, offering a small but concrete detail ahead of the game's launch.
Root, known for roles in Get Out, Barry and King of the Hill, said fans had already spotted his voice in early GTA 6 footage roughly a year ago, which he believes led to the leak. He did not confirm his character, though fans widely suspect he plays Brian Heder, a boat-yard-based drug smuggler featured in the game's extended trailer alongside protagonists Lucia and Jason. Root called the project "an amazing thing to look at." GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on 19 November, will run at 30 frames per second (with 60fps undecided), and Rockstar has confirmed the game will contain no generative AI or microtransactions.
In short
- Actor Stephen Root confirms he voices a character in GTA 6.

Explained simply
Grand Theft Auto is a long-running series of open-world crime games made by Rockstar Games. Its next instalment, GTA 6, is set in a fictional version of Florida and follows Lucia and Jason, a couple drawn into crime.
Rockstar has not announced the game’s full voice cast. Stephen Root is an American actor known for King of the Hill, Get Out and Barry; fans had speculated that he was involved after comparing his voice with footage released online.
The cast matters because actors help bring a game’s characters and story to life, and GTA 6 is among the most anticipated games in the series. Knowing one performer involved gives a small glimpse of its production, while leaving his character and the wider cast unknown.
