Former CIA Director John Brennan has been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida, on 15 October, as part of a wide-ranging Justice Department investigation into whether ex-intelligence officials conspired against Donald Trump. The probe examines allegations that Obama-era officials fabricated claims of Trump-Russia collusion during the 2016 election, along with matters linked to the January 6 Capitol riot and the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, both of which were dropped after Trump's 2024 re-election.

Brennan's lawyer, Ken Wainstein, confirmed the subpoena in a court filing, noting his client is considered a "subject" rather than the primary target of the broader conspiracy inquiry. Separately, Brennan remains a "target" of another investigation into whether he lied to a House committee in 2023 about the intelligence community's assessment of Russian interference, an accusation he denies. The case has been thrown into further uncertainty following the abrupt resignation of lead prosecutor Joe diGenova last week; the Justice Department says Jason Reding Quiñones, US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, will now oversee the investigation with backing from DOJ headquarters.
