Hugh Campion, 71, has pleaded not guilty at Salisbury Crown Court to eight charges relating to a collision that killed three Vespa scooter riders in Wiltshire last year. His red Toyota Prius allegedly collided head-on with three Vespa scooters travelling in the opposite direction on the A36 at Knook, killing Robert Best, Marie Jones and Timothy Davies, all in their early sixties, with Mr Jones's husband Gary also seriously injured. The case matters as it will determine legal responsibility for a crash that devastated a close-knit scooter club and its members' families.

Campion, of Upton Scudamore, denied three counts each of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving, as well as causing serious injury to Gary Jones. Judge Rufus Taylor set a trial of up to ten days to begin on 1 June 2027, with a pre-trial review on 30 April, and released Campion on unconditional bail. The victims were members of the Yate and Sodbury scooter club, setting off on a trip to Normandy with eight riders on five scooters when the crash occurred on 31 May last year; a memorial fundraising appeal has since raised over £25,000 for three air ambulance charities.
