The trial at the Old Bailey concerns the death of City banker Henrik Slotsaa, 52, who was killed by his partner Joanna Cierpka, 51, in March 2026. After police discovered his partially-decomposed body in their Elephant and Castle flat, Cierpka attempted to harm herself and was arrested. The case has attracted attention because of evidence suggesting jealousy over Slotsaa's workplace friendship with a colleague formed a backdrop to the killing.

Slotsaa's body lay decomposing in the bedroom for approximately nine days before discovery on 15 March. During the trial, a colleague testified that Slotsaa had discussed a potential financial separation plan involving an offer of £70,000 and a plot of land in Greece to his partner, whom he was concerned about due to her depression. Cierpka has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility, whilst prosecutors have suggested that Slotsaa's growing closeness to his work colleague, Aimee O'Shaughnessy, contributed to the circumstances of his death.
