Apple’s AirPods 5 improve sound quality, active noise cancellation (ANC), water resistance and translation features, making them a notable upgrade over the AirPods 4. However, the review argues that Apple should offer only one version because the cheaper model lacks several useful features despite costing just $20 less.

Both models include ANC and Live Translation, while water resistance rises from IP54 to IP57, allowing submersion in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes. The Wireless Charging Case version adds swipe-based volume controls, audible Find My alerts, wireless charging and longer battery life; the review particularly praises its richer bass, improved detail and stronger handling of constant background noise, although voices remain difficult for the ANC to block fully.
