Worker dies after fall during overnight Colosseum lighting works
Andrea Moretti, a 22-year-old rope-access worker, died after falling about 30ft while installing new lighting at Rome’s Colosseum overnight. Italy’s Culture Ministry confirmed Moretti’s death, while emergency services were unable to revive him and police investigated the circumstances. The Colosseum, built in the first century and capable of receiving up to 20,000 visitors daily at peak times, was also previously the scene of a serious tourist injury involving a man impaled while climbing a perimeter fence.
