CD Projekt Red's upcoming Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered encountered unexpected fan backlash following the release of comparison footage showing the revamped version alongside the 2015 original. The 11-second clip depicted Geralt casting a fire spell at an enemy in a marshy area, intended to showcase the remaster's improved graphics and effects. However, the overwhelming majority of fan responses criticised the remaster, with users claiming the original version looked significantly better.

Fans specifically pointed to the remaster's handling of colour and reflections as the primary issue, noting that the 2015 release featured a more vibrant orange hue and more dynamic fire reflections in the water. Beyond the visual improvements (or lack thereof), the remaster includes enhanced animations, overhauled combat mechanics, improved movement and mount handling, a revamped skill tree, cross-platform mod support, and new accessibility features. The remaster will be available free to all existing owners of the base game, with all released expansions made free as well, whilst CD Projekt Red prepares to launch the paid expansion Songs of the Past next year, developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory.
