Concern is growing for Australian hiker Jordan Yap, 30, who has not been heard from since beginning a solo trek on Peru’s remote Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit. He missed a scheduled return to his hostel, a bus to Lima and a subsequent flight, prompting his family to report him missing and seek help from authorities.

The 120km high-altitude route usually takes eight to 12 days and reaches around 5,000 metres. Yap was reportedly last in contact on 14 September and had warned he might be offline for about 10 days; other hikers allegedly saw him on the third day, and he was believed to be carrying camping equipment and wearing a white jacket.
