Smashing Pumpkins have commenced their "Rats in a Cage Tour," a 28-date North American arena run celebrating the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1995 double album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness." The tour, which opened on 30 September in Columbus, Ohio, represents a significant milestone for the influential alternative rock band, who have discussed building a show around the album for over a decade.

Each concert features two distinct sets: the first exclusively showcasing songs from Mellon Collie in a theatrical context, and the second spanning the band's full catalogue spanning nearly four decades. The tour extends through mid-November, with stops across North America before concluding at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on 12 November, followed by a co-headlining performance with Morrissey at the Darker Waves festival on 14 November. The anniversary celebration has included an orchestral reimagining through collaboration with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and a reissue featuring previously unreleased recordings from the band's 1996 tour.
