Sony has delayed its Helldivers film adaptation by seven months, moving its cinema release from 10 November 2027 to 9 June 2028. Alan Ritchson is set to star and Justin Lin will direct; the delay gives the production more time, while pushing back fans’ chance to see the PlayStation franchise on the big screen.

The film is based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ satirical sci-fi games, in which soldiers defend the authoritarian Super Earth from alien threats in the name of “Managed Democracy”. Helldivers 2 sold more than 12 million copies on PlayStation 5 and PC in its first four months after launching in 2024, then expanded to Xbox. Ritchson’s character has not been identified beyond being one of the Helldivers.
