Trump’s super intelligence proposal fuels surge in Slovenia domain registrations
Slovenia’s official domain registry recorded an unprecedented surge in registrations for .si website addresses after US President Donald Trump proposed calling artificial intelligence “super intelligence”, or SI. The initials match Slovenia’s internet domain suffix, though the registry says it is cautious about attributing the whole increase to Trump’s remarks.
Register.si spokesperson Klara Herman said 44,000 .si addresses were registered in September, up from fewer than 2,000 in August, and 11,000 were registered on 30 September alone. Trump made the proposal at the UN General Assembly on 11 September and later signed an order directing US government bodies to use “SI” and “Super Intelligence” in official communications; speculative domain buying may also have contributed to the registrations.
- September saw 44,000 new Slovenian .si domains.
- Trump wants US agencies to replace “AI” with “SI”.
- The registry says the cause of the surge is not certain.
