Woman’s body found on Eastbourne beach after overnight search

A woman's body has been discovered washed up on a beach near Eastbourne pier following a multi-agency search operation. Emergency services, including coastguard rescue teams, an HM Coastguard helicopter and the RNLI, were deployed on Friday afternoon after unattended items were spotted along the seafront. Sussex Police have confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, and next of kin have been informed.

The body was found at approximately 8:18am on Saturday, 3 October, near Marine Parade. The search was initiated on Friday afternoon when unattended items were discovered towards the west of Eastbourne. An eyewitness reported the body appeared to be wearing a wetsuit. A report is being prepared for HM Coroner to establish the cause of death.
