Cambodian Remake of Korean Mother-Daughter Drama ‘Wedding Dress’ Leads Abnormal Studios’ Busan Market Slate (EXCLUSIVE)
Abnormal Studios is leading its Busan Asian Contents & Film Market slate with a Cambodian adaptation of the 2010 South Korean drama "Wedding Dress," a film exploring how mortality reshapes motherhood. The remake, set in Phnom Penh, follows bridal gown designer Dalin, who receives a terminal diagnosis and must confront her estrangement from her 10-year-old daughter Mina whilst grappling with how to prepare the girl for a future without her.
The adaptation is the directorial debut of Huang Han, whose previous work has screened at the Berlin, Busan and Pingyao film festivals. The film keeps the original's core mother-daughter narrative whilst anchoring it in the lived reality and emotional texture of contemporary Cambodia. Abnormal Studios, which released its first titles in 2020, now distributes approximately 100 films annually across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Mongolia and Nepal, having handled more than 400 titles to date, with recent successes including "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" and "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In."
