Art Garfunkel postpones UK tour after being diagnosed with respiratory infection

NME ·

Art Garfunkel has postponed all four UK dates on his ‘What A Wonderful World’ tour after a doctor diagnosed him with a respiratory infection during rehearsals. The 84-year-old said he was advised to rest and recover, expressing sadness at disappointing audiences and promising to return when his health allows.

The shows were scheduled for Watford on 13 October, Manchester on 15 October, Wolverhampton on 17 October and London on 19 October. Venues are arranging replacement dates, and ticket holders should keep their tickets. Garfunkel’s next listed performance is in Paris on 21 October; he has previously experienced vocal cord paresis, which led to the cancellation of a planned Simon & Garfunkel reunion tour in 2010.

Art Garfunkel is an American folk singer best known for his work in Simon & Garfunkel, the duo whose songs were hugely popular in the 1960s and 1970s. He has since pursued a long solo career and continues to be recognised for his musical contributions.

The 84-year-old had scheduled four performances across the UK in October as part of his "What A Wonderful World" tour, which would have featured songs from across his entire career.

Garfunkel has previously faced health issues that affected his ability to perform, including a vocal condition that led to the cancellation of a planned reunion tour with Paul Simon in 2010. For musicians at an advanced age, such health challenges can significantly impact touring schedules.
