Bandai Namco has outlined plans for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO as it marks its second anniversary, with events, free updates, new modes and additional fighters planned through the rest of 2026 and 2027. The roadmap’s headline feature is cross-play, which is intended to let players on different platforms play together.

A beta for cross-play is planned for after summer 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox and Steam; further details have not yet been announced. The game will also receive Tower of Power, a solo mode featuring progressively tougher battles and Ki Aura customisation rewards, with team-based content planned later. Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is a fighting game based on the Dragon Ball franchise, which has been a beloved manga and anime series for decades. The game allows players to battle as characters from throughout the Dragon Ball universe.

Fighting games are primarily played online against other people, and modern gamers use different gaming platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC. Cross-play allows players on different platforms to compete against each other directly, a feature that fighting game communities have consistently requested.

Bandai Namco, the publisher, regularly releases updates and new content for major game releases to keep them fresh over several years. Adding cross-play to Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO represents a significant quality-of-life improvement that addresses a long-standing player request.
