Daily Mail ·

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 12-year-old boy died from gunshot wounds at a home in Sydney’s Hills District. The new charge follows the boy’s death and a homicide squad investigation.

Police were called to a Norwest unit at about 5 pm on 21 September, where the boy was one of 10 people present. Three 18-year-old men were arrested; two were released without charge while inquiries continued, and the third was initially charged with concealing a serious indictable offence. Norwest is part of Sydney’s Hills District, in the city’s north-west. In New South Wales, murder cases are investigated by police and dealt with through the courts, which assess the evidence and determine whether a person is guilty.

A criminal charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. A person held on remand is in custody while their case proceeds; the court process gives the accused an opportunity to respond to the allegation.
