Cyberpunk 2 is still secretive, but Gabe Amatangelo’s role as director gives fans a reason for confidence. He led Cyberpunk 2077’s Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, which helped turn the game around after its troubled 2020 launch.

In a developer interview, Amatangelo said the sequel’s concept is evolving as more people contribute, and described it as a reflection of the team. He wants games to remain inspiring and to treat open-world, story-led experiences as an art form. The game is likely several years away; The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing game set in Night City, a future metropolis shaped by powerful companies, advanced technology and stark inequality. Players explore its open world through a story about crime, identity and survival.

The game was released in 2020 and faced criticism over technical problems, particularly on older consoles. Gabe Amatangelo later led work on a major update and the Phantom Liberty expansion, which changed and extended the game. CD Projekt, the Polish studio behind the series, is also making a sequel.

The sequel is expected to continue the series’ mix of an open world and a story focused on its characters. It is still at an early stage, so details about its setting, plot and release timing are not yet known.
