Steam Achievement Sets will stop DLCs from ruining your 100 percent record

Engadget ·

Steam is introducing Achievement Sets, which separate base game achievements from downloadable content (DLC) achievements. The feature aims to protect players’ 100 per cent completion record when developers add achievements through later updates or expansions.

Available in the Steam Client beta, the sets must be added by developers and can also organise achievements by categories such as single-player, multiplayer or seasonal events. Base game sets appear in blue, while DLC sets appear in purple and count towards overall game progress only when players have access to the relevant DLC. Each set has its own progress bar and completion trophy, and a redesigned page lets players compare achievements with up to three friends.

  • Steam Achievement Sets separate base game and DLC achievements.
  • DLC achievements count only for players with access to that content.
  • Players can track set progress and compare with up to three friends.

Steam is a digital shop and gaming platform run by Valve. Many games on it have achievements: in-game goals that players can complete and track on their profiles.

Developers can add achievements after a game launches, often with downloadable content (DLC), which adds new material to a game. Separate achievement sets let players see progress in the main game apart from progress in DLC they may not own.

The feature is being tried in Steam’s client beta, and developers choose whether to use it. It may help players understand what counts towards their progress and compare achievements with friends.
