New Jersey man in intensive care after Amalfi Coast cliff-jumping fall
Jacob Fleig, a 22-year-old from New Jersey, is in intensive care after falling while cliff-jumping at Fiordo di Furore on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The accident happened on 5 October, a day after he proposed to his fiancée, Olivia; Italian authorities are investigating, and the circumstances have not been confirmed.
Fleig reportedly jumped from an estimated height of 30 metres, or nearly 100 feet. He was taken first to a hospital in Castiglione di Ravello and then flown by helicopter to Salerno, where he has undergone lifesaving procedures and surgeries. His family says it hopes to arrange medical transport to the United States for further treatment, and a fundraiser had raised more than $45,000 towards a $50,000 goal.
