No construction or operating timeline has been announced for Amazon’s proposed nuclear plant in Indiana, and the financial terms of its agreement with X-energy and American Electric Power remain undisclosed. The project would replace a closed coal station and aims to supply carbon-free power to the regional grid and Amazon data centres, as technology companies seek energy for expanding computing demand.

The plan targets 12 Xe-100 small modular reactors, with capacity of up to 960 megawatts; the reactors are still being developed and licensed. Amazon says the project could create 1,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent roles. It is the second nuclear project Amazon and X-energy are pursuing together, within a goal to deploy more than 5 gigawatts of new US nuclear capacity by 2039.
