CNN’s chief international anchor, Christiane Amanpour, says she will leave the network next year after 43 years. She said she had reached the decision after months of thought and is looking forward to new projects, while continuing to support CNN’s independent journalism.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 as an assistant on its international news desk and became one of its best-known correspondents, reporting on conflicts including the Gulf and Bosnian wars, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran. She has presented a nightly interview programme on CNN International since 2009. CNN chairman Mark Thompson said the network would celebrate her career before her departure.
