Italian Content Investment Dropped 7.4% in 2025 Largely Due to Uncertainty Over Domestic Tax Credits, Rome MIA Market Report Says
Investment in content production for Italy’s film, television and streaming sectors fell 7.4% in 2025 to €2 billion, according to a report from the Italian TV producers’ association APA. The report links the downturn, particularly in scripted production, to uncertainty over domestic tax credits and the shift from linear television to streaming, saying the delays made planning harder and increased financial pressure on producers.
Unscripted programmes remained a mainstay, with more than 17,000 hours of new first-run content produced; independent producers accounted for 59%. Scripted titles rose 9% to 101, largely because of smaller series for linear networks, while streamers released 27 Italian originals, unchanged from 2024. Streaming’s share of the Italian market grew from 21% in 2020 to 43%, and the report says a reopened tax-credit application window may offer some relief.
