French fiction prize offers publication for books co-written with AI

The Guardian ·

A new French language fiction prize is inviting writers to submit books co-written with artificial intelligence, with the winner promised publication. The Prix Pascal de Littérature IA comes amid debate about whether AI was used by finalists and winners of several literary awards this year.

Manuscripts must be unpublished, 10,000 to 50,000 words long and submitted in French; entrants must also identify the AI model and prompt they used. Any major language model is permitted, and submissions are expected to address an ethical, social or ecological problem. Applications opened on Tuesday and close at the end of November, with a shortlist of 10 and a winner due in early December.

  • A new prize will publish the winning AI-assisted fiction manuscript.
  • Entries must be in French and 10,000 to 50,000 words.
  • A shortlist of 10 is due before the winner is named in December.
