Arkansas pupil hospitalised after reported bullying and self-harm at school
An 11-year-old Arkansas boy was hospitalised after hurting himself at school, following months of bullying, his mother says. The incident has drawn attention to the impact of bullying and how schools respond when pupils are at risk.
Wyatt Hutchins was taken from Barton Elementary School to hospital on 8 October after, according to his mother, he hit his head against a milk cooler and tried to stab himself with scissors. She said the bullying had not been addressed promptly. After treatment at a mental health facility, Wyatt was reported to be doing well; a school-wide show of support, with many wearing blue, helped him feel welcome and willing to return. The school district was contacted for comment.
