Mother grizzly drives intruder from fishing spot in Alaska park

Daily Mail ·

A photographer captured a brief confrontation between two grizzly bears fishing in Lake Clark National Park, Alaska. A mother bear with two cubs charged and roared at an intruder that came too close, prompting it to retreat to another fishing spot.

Baltimore-based photographer Scott Suriano described the encounter as one of his top wildlife photography experiences and said he felt humbled by the display of maternal protection. Grizzlies can weigh up to 900 pounds, reach eight feet tall and run at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour; their sense of smell is reported to be far stronger than a human’s.
