Vietnamese Whodunit ‘Karaoke Murder’ Sets Record With Same-Weekend Opening on Four Continents (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety ·

“Karaoke Murder” is set to open in Vietnam and cinemas across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia on the same weekend, which its backers describe as a first for a Vietnamese film. The coordinated release, timed for Halloween, aims to build international momentum alongside the film’s home launch.

The film opens nationwide in Vietnam on 30 October, with distributor 3388 Films releasing it that weekend in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, Norway, Australia and New Zealand. Hoang Le makes his directing debut with the whodunit, set during a mountain pilgrimage where a former journalist investigates the killing of a karaoke-loving tycoon. Producers say karaoke’s central role in Vietnamese social life, and the disputes it can cause, helped inspire the story.
