North Carolina couple and dogs survive plane crash with minor injuries
A North Carolina couple and their two dogs survived a private plane crash after the aircraft lost engine power during a flight to their beach house. The pilot’s decision to pull up just above the treetops helped the plane’s belly take the impact, and a tree caught the aircraft, leaving the couple with minor injuries.
Dustin Davis, 44, said the single-engine Piper PA-32 was descending from 6,000 feet at about 1,000 feet per minute, giving him roughly six minutes to act. The nearest airport was eight miles away and out of reach; the plane came to rest about six feet above the ground. Davis had a black eye, his wife Autumn had neck and back soreness, and both dogs were unharmed.
In short
- A failed engine forced a plane carrying a couple and their dogs into a tree.
- The aircraft stopped about six feet above the ground.
- The couple and dogs survived with little or no injury.
