Homeless man, 61, is charged with murder of housing officer, 47, found stabbed in crashed car as she tried to drive to hospital
Eleanor Barnfield, a 47-year-old housing officer, died after being stabbed at a sheltered housing complex in Bridgend, South Wales. Clifford Foster, 61, has been charged with her murder; police say the case is not being treated as a domestic incident and have urged the public not to speculate while court proceedings are active.
The alleged attack happened at Ger-Y-Nant, where Barnfield worked, after she reportedly challenged Foster’s presence in a flat. She drove a short distance before crashing into a wall and was taken to hospital, where she died. Foster was arrested after barricading himself inside the complex, whose 13 flats are for people over 60; Barnfield’s family described her as their “rock”.
