Josh Brolin’s New Survival Thriller Is Giving Fans a Free Reason to Go Back to Theaters [Exclusive]

Collider ·

Whalefall, a survival thriller starring Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin, is getting a free filmmakers’ commentary for cinema audiences. The track offers viewers a chance to revisit the film while hearing how its creators brought the story to the screen.

Available from 23 October at participating cinemas in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, the English-language commentary features director and co-writer Brian Duffield, novelist and co-writer Daniel Kraus, and editor Pietro Scalia. They discuss adapting the largely internal novel, consulting whale anatomist Dr Joy Reidenberg, building cramped stomach sets with Wētā Workshop, and editing around Jay’s roughly one hour of air. Viewers need the free TheaterEars app and headphones; the app syncs the commentary with the screening.
