Sam Nivola, Nico Parker And Paul Giamatti To Star In ‘Grandgear’ From ‘Godzilla Minus One’ Director Takashi Yamazaki, J.J. Abrams And Sony Pictures

Sam Nivola and Nico Parker will lead Grandgear, a new studio film from Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki, while Paul Giamatti is in talks to join them. The project marks Yamazaki’s first major studio picture and is notable for bringing together the Japanese filmmaker, producer J.J. Abrams and Sony Pictures.

Yamazaki wrote the original screenplay and will direct, with Abrams and Glen Zipper producing; the plot has not been disclosed. Production is expected to begin in 2027. Nivola and Parker were chosen after an extensive search and chemistry tests, while Giamatti was sought for a role. Yamazaki’s follow-up to Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla Minus Zero, recently premiered at the New York Film Festival.
