Explained simply
Harry Potter is a fantasy story about a boy who learns he is a wizard and goes to Hogwarts, a school for magic. The books and films follow Harry and his friends as they confront the dark wizard Voldemort.
James and Lily Potter are Harry’s parents, whose deaths before the story begins shape his life and his connection to Voldemort. Charlie Weasley is Ron Weasley’s older brother, part of the large family that becomes important to Harry.
HBO’s series is a new television adaptation of the books, with a cast playing the central children and adults around them. Its retelling brings the Potter family’s past and the wider Weasley family into the same story.
