Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3’s online servers are temporarily going dark, FromSoftware announces

Eurogamer ·

FromSoftware has temporarily taken the online servers for *Dark Souls 2* and *Dark Souls 3* offline because of an unspecified server issue. Online features, including player messages, summoning and PvP invasions, are unavailable while the studio investigates, affecting play across all platforms.

The developer has not given a restoration time and says it will share updates when it has more information. The trilogy has faced previous outages: all three games went offline in 2022 after a security vulnerability affected *Dark Souls 3*, which suffered another outage months later. FromSoftware’s multiplayer game *The Duskbloods* has also had server problems and was recently delayed to 2027.

In short

  • *Dark Souls 2* and *3* servers are temporarily offline.
  • The cause and restoration time have not been announced.
  • *The Duskbloods* is now due in 2027.

Explained simply

Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 are action role-playing games made by Japanese developer FromSoftware. They are part of the Dark Souls series, known for challenging combat and settings where players can encounter one another online.

Online play lets players leave messages, join another player’s game to help, or enter their world as an opponent. These features are separate from the games’ single-player campaigns, so players can still play alone while online services are unavailable.

The series has experienced server outages before, including a lengthy shutdown in 2022 after a security vulnerability was found. FromSoftware also makes other online games, but each title’s server issues are separate.
