Explained simply
Chelsea and Manchester United are two of English football’s best-known clubs, competing in the Premier League, the country’s top men’s division. Chelsea are managed by Xabi Alonso, while Michael Carrick leads United; Bruno Fernandes is United’s captain. The clubs have a long history of competing for trophies and places in European competitions.
The Premier League season runs from August to May, with each team playing the others home and away. Results affect both the title race and the fight to avoid relegation, when the lowest-placed clubs drop into the division below. The wider fixture list also includes women’s football, lower-league matches and games from other European leagues.
